It is with great pleasure that we announce Ally Peabody Smith as the new President of the Society of Philosophy and Disability.
Ally Peabody Smith, PhD, is a philosopher and mixed-methods researcher focusing on bio- and neuroethics and the philosophies of disability, health, and medicine. Her research centers upon topics related to cognitive disability, including moral status, capacity and communication, psychiatric nosology, healthcare outcomes for patients with cognitive disability, the social and political context of disability, and atypical or extended forms of consciousness. She has published in venues including The American Journal of Bioethics, Neuroethics, Journal of Philosophy of Disability, and Passion, and she is the author of two forthcoming monographs, Love Without Language: Intellectual Disability, Animal Life, and the Significance of Non-Spoken Communication and Disability Ethics: The Basics (Routledge: 2028). Her research has been supported by the NIH, NSF, Lehigh University, and Good Shepherd Rehabilitation and she is the Principal Investigator of Minds at the Margins Lab. She looks forward to supporting the valuable work of the Society of Philosophy and Disability.
